Happiest of new years to all of you! We at Life Design are looking forward to all the fun and hard work that 2012 has in store. Thinking back on 2011, we thought we'd share some trends that seemed to dominate the wedding scene. Which ones do you love? What do you wish would disappear? Vintage/Rustic This trend is still going strong, after appearing in a major way in the past year or two. Burlap tablecloths; antique suitcases as a place for guests to leave notes; Mason jars for centerpiece containers -- you get the idea. We think it'll continue through 2012.
Small Bite Foods Mini burgers passed as hors d'oeuvres; tiny donuts for midnight snacks; one-bite appetizers that don't require a plate. We love this idea, since guests can be served buffet-style, or have the goods passed by servers. Grab a little bite of what you love, and skip what you don't.
Videotaped Proposals Now that life is lived online, guys (and girls!) have upped the ante. Proposing at home with just the cat watching? Zzzzzz. Grab a friend to videotape the flashmob singing the song that was playing on your first date, and post that sucker on YouTube. Watch the thing go viral.
Mismatched Bridesmaids Again, this one has been around awhile, but it is here to stay. Not all bridesmaids are of the same shape, height, or style preference. Pick a color or two, and let your girls decide what cut, sleeve length, or hem looks best on them. They will love you for it, and your wedding will have instant visual interest.
Dessert Tables Traditional cakes are still going strong, with cupcakes trailing closely behind. Dessert tables made a grand entrance in 2011, letting guests pick their poison. Have your pastry chef make a tiny cake for cutting if you feel the need for the ceremonial aspect. Then pick what you really love to eat for dessert!
We wish all of you a happy, healthy, prosperous New Year!
